Seed requirements for Grass varieties
The seed sample submitted at the time of application for plant variety rights will be used for the determination of distinctness, uniformity, and stability (DUS) in growing trials.
It is common industry practice to inoculate grass varieties with varieties of fungal endophyte. The presence of fungal endophyte in seed of grass varieties does not significantly impact use for DUS testing. It is acceptable to supply seed with endophyte present.
Applicants must state:
- Whether viable endophyte is present in the seed sample
- If present, declare the variety of endophyte (if known)
- If present, advise the approximate level of infected seed.
Submitted seed samples may be subject to random testing for the presence of viable endophyte.
